The Best Part of Me

 amazon.com
This week we did a writing project using the book "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald. After reading the book to them they wrote about what they thought they best part of them was.  I took pictures of them and mounted them on black stock card.  We are going to hang them on our "Poet Tree" that is in the hallway.  I think that they did a great job!
The best part of me is my whole body. My body helps me move and my body help-s me talk. My body also helps me throw. My mom says I talk a lot. My body makes me run and skate. I like my body because it helps me think and read. My body even hleps me spell and helps me to do math.
The best part of me are my hands. I can do cartwheels with my hands. I can hold a pencil in my hands. I can swing with my hands. I can feel things. I can pray with my hands. I love my hands because they help me to do all of these things and more. P.S. I love my hands!
The best part of me is my whole body. My body helps me run and play. My body helps me walk and talk. It helps me hear and see and eat!

The best part of me are my arms, legs, and my hands. I like my legs because I can do gymnastics with them. I like my arms because I can do a cartwheel with them. I like my hands because I can do a handstand with them.

The best part of me is my feet. They help me run, jump, and climb trees. If I didn't have my feet, I couldn't walk. I don't know what I would do without them. I love my feet so much!

Th best part of me are my eyes because I can see with my eyes. They are beautiful, blue, and pretty. I love my eyes. I can read with my eyes. I can blink with my eyes. I can shut my eyes. I can open my eyes. If I did not have my eyes, I could not see things. I love my eyes so much!

The best part of me are my eyes. I can cross my eyes and do anything with my eyes. My eyes are blue. I have eyelashes and they are long.

The best part of me are my eyes. I can see out of my eyes. I can see stuff with my eyes like food. I can do my homework with my eyes. I can do so much stuff with my eyes. My eyes are hazel.

The best part of me are my feet. I can use them because they are a part of me. I can use them for running, skipping, hopping, jumping, swinging, swimming, walking, jogging, and moving to Mrs. Tracy. I really, really like my feet because they are the best part of me.

The best part of me are my arms. If I did not have my arms, I could not draw pictures. I would not be able to color my pictures. I wouldn't be able to go to school!

The best part of me are my legs. I like my legs because I can run.I can run a touchdown with my legs, and I can run in place.I can jump with my legs. I like my legs. I can sit with my legs, kick a football with my legs, and I can stand with my legs!

Th best part of me are my feet. I can jump with my feet. I can play with my feet. I can paint my toenails. I love my feet. I can run, jump, skip, walk, and gallop with my feet.

The best part of me is my mouth. When I am in the car and I am bored, sometimes my grandmother will tell me a story. When she is done, I will start asking a bunch of questions. Finally, she will tell me to shut up. The best part of me is my mouth, because I can talk with my mouth. It protects my teeth, and I can sing. I love to sing. Sometimes when I am in bed, I will sing. Sometimes at night, when I can not go to sleep, I will sing myself to sleep.

The best part of me are my legs. I like my legs because they protect my bones. They help me run. They help me hop, swing, and do jumping jacks. I like my legs because they help me play baseball and help me run to the bases. Without my legs I wouldn't be able to do all this stuff. This is why I like my legs.

3rd Grader Quotes of the Day

3rd Grader Quotes of the Day
Each day my students do Exit Slips. On a post it note they write one thing they learned or a question they have about something we learned.  Today one student wrote: " I learned I had better be quiet in the bathroom", and another one wrote
" Why in the world are we doing these exit slips?" 3rd graders just crack me up!!! :)

First Day
Today was our first day of class in Mrs. Tracy's 3rd grade and it went wonderfully.  I have 16 students and they were all very enthusiastic and very well behaved.  When I gave them a 15 minute warning that it was time to go home, they all made a sad groan...and that made me smile really big.  And then think about the days that they will be so ready to get out of there, they will nearly knock me over!  Day 2....tomorrow!

Ready, Set,  5 Days to Go!

Five days and counting until the first day of this school year!  Today the husband and I hit the used book store (gotta love McKays) and hit the mother lode!  I was so excited!  It is always great to find Patricia Pollaco books. Today I found Junkyard Wonders and Chicken Sunday!  Patricia Polacco is my all time favorite author....my favorite books being Dear Mr. Falker and My Rotten Red-Headed Older Brother!  Can't wait to get the year started with all the great reading that I have in store!

Star Student Corner!

Our "Poet Tree"...ready for 3rd grade works of art!

This is the behavior system that I use.  It works really well.  Everyone starts on "Ready to Learn" each morning.  Students can move up or down according to their day.  I use wooden clothes pins with each student's name on it.  Each time the student moves up, he or she receives a dot on the pin.  After receiving 10 dots, the student receives a special reward!

This is what I use for our class reward system.  The class earns "Brownie Points" for good behavior in special classes, lunch, hallway.....after earning all 20 brownies, the entire class earns a reward!

These are the organize binders that we are using this year.  The D.O.T. Binder stands for Daily Organizational Tool.  I believe that learning to be organized is one of the most important things that students can learn!

Dismissal Reminders...got to use my owls....yeah!
